Ernest Hemingway (with the mustache) with Lady Duff Twynden (wearing a hat), his wife Hadley and three men at a café in Pamplona, Spain, July 1925.
In class today and Thursday: you are writing your analysis essay on T. S. Eliot's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. I know that I had said I would collect your notes on Tuesday, but I feel you should have them to review for the essay. You'll turn them in on Thursday with the completed essay.
ESSAY: In a very well written formal essay (MLA heading), discuss how through the character of Prufrock is representative of the world that emerged after the Great War. Take your time to organize your essay, making sure you have a clear thesis within each paragraph, specific textual proof interwoven and an analysis statement. You may only use your Cornell notes and the fresh copy of the poem. Check your spelling and grammar. Vary your sentences. I'll collect the essays on Wednesday and return them on Thursday for completion.
Break Work: You have received the background information on Ernest Heminway's The Sun Also Rises. Please review the material and keep it handy while reading the book. You must have completed the novel by the Monday after the break. I have scheduled lab time on Tuesday and Wednesday April 17 and 18 to write an analysis essay. We'll discuss the novel on Monday, the expectation being everyone has read! This essay is part of the RocRead and will as with previous readings go to the district office. As it's due on Friday April 20, no late material will be accepted. All you have over the break is to read. As always, if you have questions, send an e-mail.
See Tuesday's blog for more Hemingway / Sun Rises material
ADDENDUM: everyone worked very hard Wednesday- treats all around while you work tomorrow.
