Beginning of class turn in the Twain responses
HOMEWORK: ETHAN FROME Make sure you have read through chapter 5 by Tuesday.
In class: another look at Kate Chopin's Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin
This story was read in class on Wednesday; however, as it is an excellent example of how the imagery and word choice is used to build characterization, we are taking a deeper look.
1. Individually, on a separate sheet of paper, list the four characters: Mrs. Mallard, Josephine(her sister), Richards (Mr. Mallard's friend) and Mr. Mallard. Leave plenty of space between them.
2. Now read through the story, making a list of words or phrases that indicate personality and relationship aspects among the characters. Be prepared to support your selections.
(These will be collected and graded)
